Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Spencer might hire a new City Manager tomorrow night. The Mayor has called a special city council meeting with the only item on the agenda being a resolution to appoint former Mayor, former acting Deputy Manager, and current acting City Manager Kevin Robinson to the post full-time.

After serving only three years, Dan Gifford retired this fall, after giving several months notice.

Things moved into high gear after the flooding in June prompted Mayor Steve Bomgaars to request Robinson – who was then on staff managing the city’s two cemeteries – come on board to help the city deal with the emergency.

Last month Robinson presented the council with a proposal for a three-year contract, and since that time the council amended the city manager ordinance eliminating the requirements for a minimum number of years in municipal management, and a college degree in Public Administration.

The meeting is at 6:15 Tuesday night at city hall.
