Sheldon, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — A Colorado man who escaped police custody Monday night was apprehended the next day after an aerial drone found him hiding in a stand of tall grass.
According to the arrest document, an Osceola County Deputy had stopped 28-year-old Abraham Herrera Mejias of Denver around 10:30pm just North of Sheldon on 300th Street.
The subject was being placed in handcuffs when he ran away with them attached to one wrist. Authorities were unable to find him that night.
The next day the owner of a business two miles North reported the theft of cash and had video surveillance of the perpetrator. About that time another caller reported a suspicious subject on a bicycle.
When Herrera Mejias was located, he was wearing the same clothing he had on the previous night, and the same clothing as the suspect in the video.
So far, he has been charged with interference, third degree burglary, fourth- and fifth-degree theft, and also possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
