Okoboji, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — A Spirit Lake native and his father had dealings with Jimmy Carter over the years. The former Georgia Govenor was a dark horse when he announced his candidacy for President in 1975. Tom Bedell – whose father, Berkely Bedell, had just been elected to Congress – was a political consultant.
Bedell says his father and the 39th President bonded over their love of the outdoors.
The last time Bedell met up with Carter was in 1990.
Carter died Sunday after a lengthy time on Hospice care.
