Storm Lake, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Storm Lake Police have released their 2024 Crime Report, and overall numbers are significantly down. Police Chief Chris Cole.

Calls for service in 2024 totaled over 33,000 total calls, and on average 91 calls a day. Compared to 5 years earlier in 2019 when over 48,000 calls to service, averaging 133 calls a day.

Adults arrested in 2024 totaled 1669, down from over 1800 in the year before. There were 117 assault arrests in 2024, and 134 drug arrests. Vehicle arrests declined in 2024, and accident injuries were at their lowest since 2020.

Cole says the biggest issue is maintaining a full police force.

Although Cole says they do not have that problem right now.

The goal going forward for Storm Lake Police continues to be building trust in the community.

The Storm Lake Police Department lost their previous K-9 Ozzy, and in 2024 fundraising efforts helped purchase a new canine who is in training right now and will join the department this Spring.
