Spirit Lake, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — State Patrol Headquarters 6 in Spencer has released the accident report from a two-vehicle collision on Highway 9 West of Spirit Lake Friday afternoon.
Two individuals were transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake for what appear to have been minor, non-incapacitating injuries.
The official report says 28 year old Andre Araguz of Estherville was Eastbound in a Ford pickup, when some cargo fell out of the bed. He stopped in the left lane of traffic, retrieved what had spilled, and had just re-entered the cab when was was rearended by an Eastbound Dodge pickup driven by 31 year old Jed Siegwarth of Spirit Lake. The Araguz truck wound up in the median, and the Siegwart truck wound up in the South ditch.
The Spirit Lake fire department was called to assist, and both drivers were extricated from their vehicle by non-mechanical means.
The State Patrol says safety restraints likely prevented more serious injuries or even a fatality.
