Estherville, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Estherville fire fighters were able to bring a fire at Hardee’s under control with just extinguishers Thursday morning.

They were dispatched to the restaurant on highway 9 East around 5:30 after a blaze started in a fryer. Employees activated the emergency kitchen equipment designed for exactly that purpose, but the flames had already spread. Assistant Chief Brian Mack arrived first and put out the fire inside the building. The first engine crew arrived and used extinguishers to put out the flames that had extended into the exhaust system and roof.

The Wallingford fire department was called for backup. There were no injuries and firefighters were on the scene for about 60 minutes.
