Iowa City, Iowa (Northwest Iowa Now) — He graduated from Storm Lake St. Mary’s High School in 1999, and now he is the new head coach for Iowa Hawkeye Men’s Basketball. Ben McCollum will tak over the program, officially announced today by the Hawkeye athletic department. McCollums success includes 4 National Championships at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. And this year, he led the Drake Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament with a 31-4 record in his first season.

And it all started when he played basketball at Storm Lake St. Mary’s. He was first-team all-state point guard on the team, and then played two seasons at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, Iowa. He finished his playing years at Northwest West Missouri State. Then, after an assistant job in Emporia, Kansas, he was named the NWMSU Head Coach in 2010. It was there he accomplished feats rarely done by Division 2 coaches.
