Storm Lake, IA (KICD)– A Storm Lake teen has been charged with allegedly soliciting murder.

The Storm Lake Police Department was originally notified early Friday morning that an individual has visited a website attempting to hire someone to kill a 7-year-old with the request including details about the potential victim.

Investigators worked through the night and were able to identify the target and a suspect leading to a member of the Police Department posing as a hitman making contact with the person of interest.

The suspect, only publicly identified at a 17-year-old female, was taken into custody later that same afternoon and charged with one count of solicitation to commit murder. The individual was later taken to the Youth Emergency Services Center in Cherokee..

Police note the investigation is ongoing and that no one was hurt. There is also no word on a possible connection between the suspect and potential victim.
