SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) – Firefighters responded to a house fire last Sunday in Spencer.

A residence at 130 3rd Avenue East caught fire last Sunday, with heavy flames venting from the first floor. Initially, it was believed that a child might be on the second floor.

Firefighters deployed multiple lines to combat the blaze on the first floor. During the firefight, they entered a second-floor window to search for the child, who was later found to be not at home. The house sustained significant fire and smoke damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Spencer Fire Department received assistance from Spencer Hospital paramedics, the Spencer Police Department, Spencer Municipal Utilities, and Dickens Fire & Rescue.

Last Friday, firefighters responded to a house fire at 101 DeLoss Court. A 4-year-old boy was rescued and remains in critical condition.
