MILFORD, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Chief of Police Shilo Brevik reminds residents about regulations of ATVs, UTVs, and golf carts in Milford.

In Milford, golf carts are permitted on city streets, except for Highway 71, Highway 86, and A34/13th Street or 28th Street. They should only be used to cross these roads, with travel otherwise prohibited. A city-issued permit must be attached to the front left of the golf cart at all times. Operation hours are from sunrise to sunset, and vehicles must display a slow-moving vehicle sign and a bicycle safety flag. They must be insured and not exceed 20 miles per hour.

ATVs and UTVs are allowed on paved, undivided, two-lane highways, but traveling on Highway 71 is prohibited, except for crossing. Drivers must be licensed and at least 18 years of age. Vehicles must have valid insurance and working headlights and taillights. They are not allowed on the trail system and can only carry the number of passengers the vehicle was designed for. All ATVs and UTVs must have a fluorescent orange bicycle flag at least 5 feet above the roadway. Off-road driving in city parks or on sidewalks is prohibited.
