Wallingford, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Wallingford Fire Department responded to a grass fire yesterday.

In a news release, Wallingford Fire Chief Jarrod Fischer reported that the Wallingford Fire and Ambulance were paged to 2300, 440th Avenue. Upon arrival, the fire had already spread into DNR wildland property just west of the farmstead. The Estherville, Gruver, Ringsted, and Graettinger fire departments were called to assist in containing and controlling the grass fire and protecting nearby properties.

Firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading to other structures, grasslands, and timber. ATVs and grass trucks were used to extinguish and control the fire. The fire department was on the scene for about two hours. Other agencies that assisted included the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, Emmet County Communications, and Emmet County Emergency Management. No injuries were reported.
