Storm Lake, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Buena Vista County was declared a disaster area by Governor Kim Reynolds Friday afternoon. That makes available the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program that offers up to 7 thousand dollars to eligible families, and The Disaster Case Advocacy Program that helps families tap state and federal resources to help in recovery. Cases must be started by May 18th.

Strong, straight-line winds caused extreme damage in Storm Lake in the early morning hours of Last Friday. Scores of volunteers converged on town already Friday and over the weekend to assist in cleanup including GoServ Global.

Buena Vista County Emergency Management Director Aimee Barrit says a dollar amount is still be put together.

The Governor’s proclamation Friday also covers Plymouth, Page, and Fremont Counties. Page and Fremont Counties had confirmed tornadoes.
