HARTLEY, IA (northwestiowanow.com) – The Hartley Fire Department responded to both a house and bridge fire on Wednesday.
The Hartley Fire Department was dispatched around 5:00 PM Wednesday to a house and garage fire at 3137 Tanager Avenue. Chief Meendering tells northwestiowanow that they initially responded to a brush fire but soon discovered that a house was involved.
The Hartley Fire Department was assisted by the Primghar and Sanborn fire departments. The cause of the fire was determined to be sparks from a tractor used for splitting wood. No injuries were reported, but the home is considered a total loss.The occupants of the home are currently staying with family. Firefighters were on the scene for about four hours.
During their response to the house fire, firefighters were called to a second fire near the intersection of 370th Street and Yew Avenue.
Chief Meendering tells Northwestiowanow that the fire started from an unattended fenceline. Firefighters from Hartley, Sanborn, and Everly worked together to put out the blaze using foam and water. As a result, 370th Street between Wilson and Yew is closed to through traffic. The bridge is considered a total loss as well.
