Spirit Lake, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Another attempt at a moratorium on wind farms in Dickinson County has failed. A six-year moratorium proposed by District 5 Supervisor Levi Markwardt was tabled two weeks ago to have County Attorney Steve Johnson review and rewrite it. A new two-year moratorium was presented Tuesday morning but failed to get the necessary 3 vote majority it needed.

An attorney for the Red Rock wind project recently approved said that even though the moratorium grand-fathered their permit, they were still concerned. Markwardt tried to allay those concerns.

1st District Supervisor Kim Wermersen maintained his support for windfarms.

As did 2nd district Supervisor Bill Leupold.

Wermersen and Leupold voted no. 3rd District Supervisor Steve Dullard joined Markwardt in voting for the moratorium. 4th District Supervisor Steve Clark abstained due to a business conflict.
