STORM LAKE, IA (Northwestiowanow) – A Lakeside man was arrested following a suspicious package incident at the Storm Lake Walmart on Wednesday, June 18.

Police responded around 9:13 PM to a report of a package placed near the propane exchange at the store’s north entrance at 1831 N Lake Avenue. Walmart was evacuated, and the area was secured. Bomb technicians from the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office later determined the package was not hazardous, and the store reopened around 1:00 AM.

Investigators identified Andrew Connor, 43, of Lakeside, as the suspect. He allegedly arrived by bicycle, referred to the package as a “mystery box,” and left. Connor was located on Friday, June 20, and police allege he resisted arrest. He was also found with methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Connor was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000 bond. He faces charges of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Interference with Official Acts (both simple misdemeanors), Possession of Methamphetamine (a serious misdemeanor), and Threats of Terrorism (a Class D felony).

Assisting agencies included Walmart Management, Storm Lake Fire Department, Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department, County Attorney’s Office, Buena Vista Regional Medical Center EMS, Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office, Storm Lake Public Works, and Sioux City Fire Department Hazmat.
