Lawton, Iowa (Northwestiowanow) — A suspect accused of murder in Cherokee County, Richard Hammond, was recently apprehended in Woodbury County, according to reports from Sioux City TV station KCAU.
Authorities state that an off-duty Cherokee County deputy recognized Hammond and his vehicle on Highway 20, leading to a traffic stop near the intersection of Highway 20 and Eastland Avenue, just south of Lawton. Hammond was taken into custody at the scene.
Officials with the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Hammond was held in the Woodbury County Jail on July 2nd and was slated for transport back to Cherokee County on July 3rd.
