Spencer, Ia (KICD) – Three Spencer Tiger Soccer players were selected to the All-State teams by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Addison Hoben was selected to the 2A Girls All-State Team as a Midfielder. Hoben led the State in Goals with 64, 19 ahead of the second leading scorer. Hoben also finished 3rd in Assists. She said she is happy to be selected, and really enjoyed this season with her team.

Hoben took a big step up this season, learning a new role that she says was an easy adjustment.

Spencer Girls Head Coach John Hansel was comfortable with making the position change for Hoben.

Hoben is only going into her junior year, and she would like to make it deeper in the State Tournament in the future.

Although Hoben has scored at a higher rate than any of them, she isn’t the first high volume scorer that the Tigers have had. Coach Hansel says that type of mentality is good for the team.

Spencer’s Ian MacRae and Owen Olsen were each selected to the 3A Boys All-State Second Team. MacRae was selected as a Midfielder, and he was happy with the way the team improved this season.

Spencer Boys Coach Jesse Keuhler says MacRae’s Vision is what makes him such a valuable player.

Owen Olson was selected as a Forward, in a season where he ranked 3rd in Class 3A in Goals scored with 29. This is his second year on the All-State team.

Olson saw his role as the scorer, and that is what he needed to do to help the team win games.

Keuhler says Olson has been the centerpiece of the Tigers the last 3 seasons.

Olson graduated this spring, and will be a tough piece to replace for the Tigers.

Coach Keuhler talked about the importance of the MacRae and Olson Battery to the Tigers success in 2023.
