Primghar, Iowa –  Melinda Sue Wester, 36, from Paullina, received three years of probation and must repay $21,000 after admitting to stealing from the Primghar Jaycees.

Wester, who was the Jaycees’ treasurer, took money and used their debit card for personal things in 2023. She also changed receipts and used store credit meant for the organization.

The Primghar Jaycees explained in court how Wester’s actions caused serious money problems, making it hard to pay bills and support community efforts. She even mis-used donations meant for families and student prizes.

Instead of a potential prison sentence, a deal was made because Wester pleaded guilty and the Jaycees agreed. Besides repaying the money, she must also get a mental health evaluation and write an apology letter.
