ALTON, IA (Northwestiowanow) – A stolen property investigation earlier this week in Alton has led to the arrest of a Spencer man.
According to the Orange City Police Department, DeLoss Construction of Spencer reported the theft of several pieces of construction equipment on July 7, with the total value estimated at nearly $6,500.
Investigators later discovered that a DeLoss Construction employee had allegedly listed the stolen items for sale using a fake Facebook profile. On July 9, an undercover officer with the Orange City Police arranged a meeting with the suspect through a third party posing as a buyer.
Around 6 p.m., during the arranged meeting, the officer confirmed the items were those reported stolen and arrested the suspect at the scene.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Cody James Millard of Spencer, was charged with second-degree theft, a felony under Iowa law for property valued between $1,501 and $10,000.
