Spencer, Iowa – Mayor Steve Bomgaars officially marked the upcoming 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, signing a proclamation on July 8. The document highlights the ADA’s commitment to equality and inclusion for people with disabilities and recognizes local organizations, like the Spencer ADA Council, for their work in the community.

Tom Rutt is with the Spencer ADA Council, which serves as an advisory committee for the Spencer City Council, and he says raising awareness.

The proclamation encourages everyone to observe July 26th as Americans with Disabilities Act Awareness Day. In celebration, members of the Spencer ADA Council will be at the Mainstreet Market on July 24th.

The Spencer ADA Council projects include developing “Just Like Me” disability awareness curriculum for Spencer schools, partnering on an accessible fishing dock at Stolley Park, and presenting educational programs.
