Orleans, IA (Norrthwestiowanow.com) — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is attempting to reintroduce native paddlefish in the Iowa Great Lakes.

 

 

Northwest Iowa Fisheries Supervisor Mike Hawkens says it appears they fared well over the winter.

 

 

Hawkens says maintaining the paddlefish will be an ongoing effort.

 

Newspaper articles from 100 years ago indicate the species were a very popular game fish at one time.
