Newell, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Inspectors say a downtown Newell building that partially collapsed Tuesday most likely cannot be repaired. Fire Chief Bruce Erie tells KICD News the occupants of the upstairs apartments were gone, and a construction crew had just left to buy lumber when a wall gave out about 9:30 Tuesday morning.

The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department, Iowa DOT, and Buena Vista County Road Department assisted on the scene. The Red Cross assisted two residents find temporary housing.
