Sheldon, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Sheldon’s annual clean-up week is fast approaching. The city reminds residents that you must sign-up and make payments by Tuesday, September 9th. Stickers for electronics and appliances are 15 dollars apiece and should be placed in an easily seen area. As far as computers: monitors and towers and considered separate items. A keyboard or mouse are NOT considered electronic items.
There are also $20 virtual tags. To be on that list it is important to have an easy-to-read house number on your property. Items must be at curbside by 7am Monday, September 15th, but may not be placed out before Friday evening September 15th. Metal, electronics, and appliances will be picked up seperately and must be in a seperate pile. Tree branches and brush will also be picked up seperately and must be in a seperate pile.
Cleanup is for homes only, not businesses, and will NOT proceed down alleys.
While toxic materials will not be picked up during clean-up week, the Sheldon Fire Department will have a collection trailer in town Tuesday September 23rd from 3 until 6pm at the Community Services Center parking lot. The service is free, except for Latex paint, and includes batteries. And like Clean-Up week, the trailer is available only for residential use, not for commercial entities. Fire Chief Brad Hindt says many toxic substances are flamage and disposing of them properly is a good idea.
