Le Mars, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Spencer traveled to Le Mars on Friday night to open up Class 4A District 1 play against Le Mars.

The Bulldogs opened up the scoring with an 86-yard catch and run for Andrew Grant from the arm of Jami Sitzmann.

Le Mars added to their lead early in the 2nd quarter when Sitzman connected with Tycen Augustine on a 27-yard Touchdown pass.

Trailing 13-0, Spencer’s Aaden Techen took the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a Touchdown.  The Tigers missed the extra point, making the score 13-6 midway through the 2nd quarter.

The Tigers would get the ball back with just over 5 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, and put together a 14 play drive, ending in a 2 yard Touchdown pass from Larson Vulk to Riley Van Lenning.

That made the score 13-13 going in to the half.

To open up the 2nd half, Le Mars ripped down the field in just over 3 minutes, as Quarterback Jami Sitzmann dove to the goal line for a Touchdown, giving the Bulldogs a 20-13 lead after the extra point.

Spencer was able to respond when some misdirection led Drew Piercy to break free for a 26 yard Touchdown run, tying the game back up at 20.

It was a rough 4th quarter for Spencer, as multiple turnovers deep in their own territory were capitalized on by Le Mars, and the Bulldogs pulled away to win 33-20.

Le Mars’ Andrew Grant did a ton of damage offensively, carrying the football 9 times for 79 yards while also catching 6 passes for 93 yards and a Touchdown.

The Bulldogs racked up 328 yards of total offense on the night, 156 on the ground and 172 through the air.

Spencer ran for 227 yards, led by Quarterback Larson Vulk’s 91 on 15 carries.

The Tigers fall to 1-4 on the year and 0-1 in the District.  They will host Fort Dodge next week at Dale Norton Field.

Le Mars is now 3-2 on the year and 1-0 in Class 4A District 1.  The Bulldogs will be in Sioux City next week to play West High.
