MANSON, IA (NorthwestIowaNow) – A two-vehicle crash in Calhoun County Saturday night claimed the lives of two Storm Lake residents.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 9:50 p.m. on Saturday, September 27. Forty-six-year-old Wilfredo Quevedo Mesa of Storm Lake was driving westbound on Iowa Highway 7 when his van crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound pickup driven by 21-year-old Conner Darr of Manson.

Following the impact, both vehicles veered off the road in a northeasterly direction. The van rolled onto its side in the ditch, while the pickup struck a utility pole and came to rest in a nearby field.

Three passengers in the van were reportedly seated on patio furniture purchased earlier in the evening and were not wearing seat belts. Two of those passengers—26-year-old Alondra Bravo and 34-year-old Jorge Perez Hechevarria, both of Storm Lake—were pronounced dead at the scene.

The remaining occupants in the van—46-year-old Marina Escalante, the driver, and 8-year-old Luis Bravo—were injured and transported to separate hospitals. Darr was taken by Fort Dodge Fire and Rescue to UnityPoint Hospital in Fort Dodge.

Calhoun County EMS, Life Flight, and Fort Dodge Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
