Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The main focus of National Fire Prevention week this year is the potential hazard of lithium-ion batteries.

Spencer Fire Chief Jesse Coulsen says you should immediately dispose of damaged batteries, chargers, and cords.

Coulsen tells Northwest Iowa Now you should not leave a device using the lithium-ion batteries charging near flammable materials like a couch or bed.

And if you’re recharging one of those batteries on a vehicle like a bicycle or golf cart, do it outside.
