Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Iowa Lakes Women’s Soccer Team played host to unbeaten and top ranked Johnson County on Friday for the North Plains District Championship Match.

It was a defensive grind between two of the best in the Country when it came to Goals allowed, as neither team was able to score through the regulated 90 minutes of action.

The defense for both the Lakers and Cavaliers stayed strong through two different overtime periods of 10 minutes, sending the match in to a deciding set of Penalty Kicks.

Iowa Lakes and Johnson County matched each other on PKs through the first 3, then after Mahee Montenegro put the Lakers ahead, keeper Holly Poole came up with a big save in the 4th PK.

That brought up Herschbach Germany’s Amelie Prie to try and knock in the match sealing goal for the Lakers.

With the 4-2 PK win, Iowa Lakes punches their ticket to the National Tournament for the first time in school history.
