Spencer, IA (KICD)– The Spencer City Council got an update on the ongoing smell situation on the west side of town Monday night.

City Manager Dan Gifford says crews at Symrise are continuing to work toward a permanent fix to the issue by preparing for the next phase of the multi-piece plan developed with city leaders.

Gifford says the city continues to receive complaints about the smell being emitted by the egg processing facility.

Phase one of the project to reduce the smell was completed earlier this year with Symrise constructing a dome-like cover over the source several months after city officials began receiving complaints from residents and businesses on the west side of town.
