Algona, IA (KICD)– A Kossuth County man has been sentenced for his role in the death of a man more than two years ago.

53-year-old Robert Laverty was originally arrested in June 2021, several months after 41-year-old Casey Tobin was found unresponsive on a Swea City street following a physical altercation between the two men.

Tobin was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester where he later died from his injuries leading to Laverty being charged with voluntary manslaughter but that charge was reduced to involuntary as part of a plea deal.

Laverty was given up to two years in prison earlier this week.
