Storm Lake, IA (northwestiowanow) – The City of Storm Lake is reminding residents of winter safety rules.

Property owners must clear snow and ice from sidewalks next to their property within 72 hours of a storm to keep routes safe for pedestrians.

Do not shovel snow back onto city streets. It creates hazards and makes cleanup harder for crews. Also, avoid piling snow on a neighbor’s property or pushing it into public spaces like parks or alleys.

Snow removal companies should not move cleared snow onto someone else’s property, and downtown snow should never be pushed into corners where it could block a driver’s view.

During a Snow Emergency, vehicles must be off city streets or they will be towed.

Snowmobiles are allowed but not on sidewalks, parks, golf courses, or high-traffic streets.
