Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Residents of Spencer’s 4th Ward who are interested in a city council position can now apply.

The city council voted Monday night to fill the vacancy created by Donavan Wunschel move to the mayor’s position by appointment rather than by election, citing their desire to get the post filled as soon as possible.

Applications are available at the city website or at city hall and must be received back by noon on Tuesday January 27th. The city council will meet in special session at noon, Thursday, January 29th where all eligible appointees can make a presentation, and then meet in special session again at noon the next day to make an appointment.

If residents of the 4th ward would prefer a special election they can present a petition within 14 days of the appointment. The estimated cost of an election to fill out the remaining two years on the term is between 6 thousand and 8 thousand dollars.
