Beresford, South Dakota (KICD)– A Northwest Iowa man was hurt in a two vehicle crash that killed another person in Southeastern South Dakota Friday afternoon.

A preliminary investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol found 26-year-old Hendrik Geustyn of Calumet was eastbound near Beresford around 1:30 when the tractor and silage trailer he was operating collided with a passenger car driven by 74-year-old Thomas Erickson of Beresford.

The car caught fire following the impact with the tractor rolling and ejecting Geustyn who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

Erickson died at the scene. Geustyn was taken to a local hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
