Storm Lake, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — A Newell man convicted of more than 30 counts of sexual and domestic abuse is scheduled for sentencing this Friday in Storm Lake.

A jury found 38-year-old Cristobal Del Angel guilty in December on a litany of charges, including second-degree sexual abuse, incest and child endangerment. The convictions stem from a disturbing paatern of abuse against his wife and daughter that prosecutors say spanned several years.

Court records show abuse often took plance in the basement of the family home, where investigators found mattresses, weapons and restraints. During the trial, Jurors saw graphic evidence, including photos of knives, handcuffs and blood stained bedding seized from the residence.

Des Angel attempted to represent himself during portions of the trial, has filed multiple motions requesting a new trial.

Unless a judge grants those requests, he faces sentencing Friday afternoon at the Buena Vista County Courthouse.
