ESTHERVILLE, IA (Northwestiowanow) – Iowa Lakes Community College is sharing new details following Monday’s bus crash in Calhoun County that injured more than 30 members of the baseball team. Officials confirmed that team player and student 19-year-old Carter Johnson of Rapid City, South Dakota died in the crash.
The college held a press conference Thursday afternoon at the Janice K. Lund Performing Arts Center. ILCC President Scott Stokes offered his thoughts and prayers to the Johnson family, and all the players and students.
Iowa State Patrol Lieutenant Aaron Smith provided spoke to those in attendance giving an update the ongoing investigation.
Vice President of Student Services and Athletic Director Troy Larson spoke on behalf of the athletic department, thanking the community for the overwhelming support.
ILCC officials say the investigation is ongoing and all injured students are reported to be in stable condition. The chartered bus was transporting the baseball team to Arkansas for a game that was to be held Thursday.
Classes at all Iowa Lakes campuses have been cancelled the rest of this week.
