ESTHERVILLE, IA (Northwestiowanow) – The Estherville Police Department is now operating out of its new office building on First Avenue North as the department finishes renovations.

The building at 509 First Avenue North was purchased by the City Council in August 2025. Chief of Police Brent Shatto says crews have spent the past several months gutting and rebuilding parts of the structure, adding new office space and making improvements to the garage area to better support day‑to‑day police operations.

Shatto says the move has been long overdue after sharing their old office with the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, where both agencies had been running out of space at the Law Enforcement Center.

Despite the change in location, Shatto says nothing is changing for the public. Dispatching will continue through the Sheriff’s Office; the department’s phone numbers will remain the same, and although the new building will be locked, an officer can meet residents there whenever needed.

The department’s mailing address remains 114 North 6th Street, Suite 1 in Estherville.

Chief Shatto says an open house will be scheduled once the remaining renovation work is completed.
