Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — So far, two men have filed for the special election to fill the 4th ward council seat in Spencer. Both had also applied for the position after the city council had decided to appoint an individual to fill the remaining two years of the term.

One is Duane Bates – who in fact was sworn in February 2nd.

The other candidate is Jim Vermeer – who owns and operates a main street business.

The special election is April 7th. It was triggered when the necessary number of 4th Ward resident objecting to the appointment filed a petition. The deadline for additional candidates to file is March 13th.
