CLAY COUNTY, IA (Northwestiowanow) — A routine traffic stop in Clay County Friday night ended with drug-related charges for a juvenile from Emmetsburg.
The Sheriff’s Office says a deputy pulled over a vehicle in the 2900 mile of Highway 71 around 10:05 p.m. on February 20. During the stop, deputies reported smelling marijuana coming from the 17-year-old driver’s vehicle.
A subsequent search led to the discovery of THC and nicotine vape pens.The teen was taken into custody and brought to the Clay County Jail. She was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, both simple misdemeanors. Deputies say she also received citations for Minor in Possession of Tobacco and Violation of a School Permit.
The 17-year-old was referred to Juvenile Court on the drug charges and later released to her mother.
