DES MOINES, IA (Northwestiowanow) — State Senator Dave Rowley has announced he has been diagnosed with tonsil cancer.
The Spirit Lake Republican made the announcement Monday, February 23. Rowley said the diagnosis is serious, but after discussions with his care team, everyone remains optimistic about his prognosis. He noted the cancer is considered treatable and curable.
Rowley said he will begin treatment in the coming weeks but plans to stay as active as possible in the legislative session while undergoing care. He said he has already been working with committee chairs on pending legislation and staying in contact with constituents by phone and email to ensure their concerns continue to be heard.
Rowley added that he expects to return to a full workload later this spring. He also confirmed he filed paperwork Monday morning to seek re-election this year.
Senate Majority Leader Mike Klimesh called Rowley a valued member of the Republican caucus and said lawmakers will keep him and his family in their thoughts as he begins treatment.
Rowley thanked everyone for their patience and support and said he plans to fight with everything he has.
