Sioux City, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Girls Basketball team hit the road on Tuesday night for the Class 4A Region 1 Championship game against Bishop Heelan of Sioux City.

The Crusader defense stifled the Tigers in the first quarter, taking away most of Spencer’s good looks at the hoop.  Bishop Heelan’s offense was terrific in transition and in the half court.  Top scorer Melina Snoozy scored 11 points in the first quarter and Heelan led 16-2 going into the 2nd.

Early on in the 2nd quarter, the Crusaders switched up to a full court press in the 2nd quarter, which challenged Spencer early, but the Tigers got into a nice run toward the end of the quarter, getting back within 15 going into the break.

Bishop Heelan came out of the half on a tear, forcing several Spencer Turnovers and began to see the 3-point shot fall.  The Crusaders outscored the Tigers 26-5 in the 3rd and led 58-22 going into the 4th.

With the running clock intact, Heelan burned through the 4th quarter and came away with a 72-34 win.

Bishop Heelan improves to 23-0 on the year and advances to the Class 4A State Tournament where the Crusaders take the #2 seed and will play the #7 seed North Polk in the Quarterfinals.  Melina Snoozy led the way for Bishop Heelan, scoring 26 points, 20 of those in the first half.  Ella Otten and Trishelle Miller each scored 13 in the win for the Crusaders.

Spencer wraps up the 2025-2026 season 13-10.  Calista Frankenstein led the Tigers with 16 points.  Sydnee Hopkins was also in double figures with 12.
