Hartley, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — A Hartley home is a total loss after a lithium battery fire broke out Wednesday afternoon. Hartley Fire Chief Brad Meendering says crews arrived at 20 North Fifth Avenue East to find flames shooting out of the window.
No one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported. The Hartley Chief gave a sobering reminder to only charge lithium batteries while you are home.
Hartley Fire Department received mutual aid with Sanborn Fire and Hartley Ambulance. O’Brien County Emergency Management and the American Red Cross were on hand, as well. The home is a total loss. Meendering says the home was a rental owned by Lori Lange.
