STORM LAKE, IA (Northwestiowanow) — A Storm Lake man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following an investigation into a sexual abuse incident involving two minors.

Storm Lake Police say they were notified by the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday, March 3, of a belated report of sexual abuse. The report involved the alleged sexual abuse of a minor that occurred in Storm Lake. An investigation was launched in conjunction with HHS and the Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office.

Authorities allege that 63-year-old Rafael Medina had sexual contact with two minors under the age of 18 at a Storm Lake residence between May and September of 2021.

Medina surrendered himself to Storm Lake Police on March 3.

He was taken into custody without incident and charged with one count of Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree, a Class B felony; two counts of Lascivious Conduct with a Minor, serious misdemeanors; and two counts of Indecent Contact with a Child, aggravated misdemeanors.

Medina was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail, where he is being held on a $55,000 bond.
