Sheldon, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Two women are recovering after an early morning crash near Sheldon on Monday.

According to the O’Brien County Sherriff report, just before 5:30 a.m., 57-year-old Lori Schilling of Sanborn tried to pass another driver in a no-passing zone on Highway 18. Deputies say Schilling crossed the centerline and hit 34-year-old Marbel Montiel Candia.

Schilling’s car ended up in a residential yard. Both women were taken to Sanford Sheldon Hospital by SCAT. Schilling now faces charges for illegal passing.

The total vehicle damage is estimated at around $12,000.
