Cherokee, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – KICD 9-County Area team’s competed at the Lynn Jolly Relays in Cherokee Thursday night, dealing with cold temps and some off-and-on showers.

In the Girls High Jump, Allie Fehr of West Bend-Mallard picked up the win with a height of 5’1”.

For the Boys High Jump, Tate VonEhwegen cleared a height of 6’2” to finish 1st.

Spencer’s Brooklyn Reynolds claimed the gold in the Girls Long Jump with a length of 14’10.25”.

In the Girls Discus throw, Grace Kenkel hit a mark of 91’6” to finish 1st.

For the Boys Shot Put, the best toss went to Blake Lovell of Cherokee with a distance of 49’10”.

The Boys 800m Sprint Medley Relay was won by Estherville Lincoln Central’s team of Ponce-Diaz, Richard, DeWitt, and Smith, clocking 1:38.47.

Joel Ramirez-Parra of Storm Lake was the winner in the Boys 3200m Run with a time of 10:01.23, 37 seconds in front of his teammate Alexander Ortega in 2nd. Ramirez-Parra looks forward to a more competitive race, but he told Northwest Iowa Now how he deals with virtually running alone during the 2-mile.

Cherokee’s 4x800m Relay team of Woodall, Hyndman, Smith, and Simosen won with a time of 10:44.39.

In the Boys 4x800m Relay, Spencer’s team of Anderson, Koppie, Rodriguez, and Rustad were 1st place with a time of 8:39.41.

For the Girls 4x100m Shuttle Hurdle Relay, Cherokee’s group of Reinert, Thorson, Timmerman, and Thorson won with a time of 1:13.18.

The Boys 4x110m Shuttle Hurdle Relay was won by Cherokee’s team of Malausky, Fuller, Carson, Richardson with a time of 1:05.85.

Jaxson Paulsrud was the 1st place finisher in the 100m Dash with a time of 11.64 seconds. Paulsrud says it takes hime a little longer to hit top speed.

Alta-Aurelia’s team of Stites, Olsen, Kaskey, and Berkland were the winners in the 1600m Distance Medley Relay with a time of 4:42.34.

Tate VonEhwegen of Spencer was the 400m Dash winner with a time of 50.67. VonEhwegen came from behind with a strong last 150 meters.

The Spencer boys picked up another first place finish in the 4x200m Relay with a team of Rasmussen, Buum, Goyette, and Timmer clocking 1:33.13.

Payton Reinert of Cherokee won the Girls 100m Hurdles with a time of 16.71 seconds. Reinert talked about a drill that the Braves have been doing to work on Hurdles.

Jivahny Lovan took 1st in the Boys 110m Hurdles with a time of 15.69 seconds. Lovan had no time coming in to the meet, so he had to run out of the 1st heat with slower runners.

Garbieno Weno of Storm Lake was the winner in the Boys 200m Dash with a time of 23.43 seconds. Weno is his fastest on the home stretch.

Garrett Smith of Estherville Lincoln Central took 1st in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:01.48. This was one of Smith’s first times running the race.

Storm Lake’s Silvia Kampbell clocked 5:24.18 in the Girls 1500m Run to finish 1st. Kampbell talked about running in the cold, which had gotten more uncomfortable at this point in the night.

Joel Ramirez-Parra picked up another win on the evening, this time in the Boys 1600m Run, clocking 4:52.13.

Spencer’s 4x100m Relay team of Robbins, Iedema, Reynolds, and Christensen was 1st with a time of 53.54.

The Spencer Boys 4x100m Relay team of Lovan, Buum, Stanzel, and Rasmussen would run 45.71 seconds to take 1st.

In the Girls 4x400m Relay, Spencer’s team of Simington, Frankenstein, Stuckey, and Eilts won with a time of 4:22.03.

The Tiger Boys also took the 4x100m Relay with a time of 3:34.22 made up of a team of Anderson, Koppie, VonEhwegen and Timmer.

In the Girls team scores, West Lyon won with 127 points, Spencer was 2nd with 121, and Ridge View took 3rd with 99.  Cherokee was 4th, Storm Lake 5th, Alta-Aurelia 6th, Estherville Lincoln Central 8th, Newell-Fonda 9th, and West Bend-Mallard was 11th.

For the Boys team scores, West Lyon won with 121 points, Cherokee was 2nd with 114, and Spencer was 3rd with 109.  Storm Lake was 5th, Estherville Lincoln Central 6th, Alta-Aurelia 8th, Newell-Fonda 10th, and West Bend-Mallard 13th.
