Newell, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — A heat lamp on a porch is being blamed for a Tuesday Morning fire that destroyed a home 7 miles North of Newell.
Fire Chief Bruce Erie says the family of four escaped unharmed, but the structure is pretty much a total loss with heat, smoke, and water damage to the portion that was not consumed by flames.

The fire department was dispatched 5661 200th Avenue about 6 in the morning and immediately called for backup from the Albert City Fire Department for equipment and manpower. It took around 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

The family had chickens on the porch and the heat lamp likely malfunctioned or fell, igniting the floor. They are being assisted by the Red Cross.
The Buena Vista County Assessor’s website lists the owner as Rachel Degner.
