Storm Lake, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Storm Lake authorities have still not released the identity of a man taken into custody over the weekend in what started as a domestic situation.
They were called to 801 Seneca Street – which is also Highway 7 – early Saturday evening. They say a suspect entered the automobile of his ex-girlfriend when she was in the drive-up lane at Scooter’s Coffee, said he had a handgun, and threatened to harm her and her children. When cops arrived, he made a run of it on foot and was tackled in the nearby Fareway parking lot.
The next day Storm Lake Police reported that the man caused physical harm to three officers and kicked out the back window of a patrol car during the incident.
He has been charged with: Three counts of Interference with Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury; Assault While Participating in a Felony, Disorderly Conduct, and Second Degree Burglary.
Chief Chris Cole says that despite challenges his staff demonstrated restraint, professionalism, and a commitment to resolve the situation as safely as possible. Storm Lake Police were assisted by the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department and Iowa State Patrol.
