Spencer, IA (KICD)– November is National Diabetes Awareness Month and the team at Spencer Hospital is making a push to give patients the tools they need to manage their blood sugar.

Registered Dietitian Darlene DeWitt says it all starts with a person knowing their numbers and to take any medication prescribed by their provider.

DeWitt adds a healthy diet paired with regular exercise is important, but a piece that tends to get overlooked is the brain health side.

Spencer Hospital is bringing back a Diabetes Support Group after it was disbanded because of the pandemic. That meeting will be on Tuesday afternoon from three to four. Additional information including how to register can be found at spencerhospital.org.
