Spencer, IA (KICD)– The City of Spencer decided on Monday that it is going to move forward with the demolition of a property on the west side of town that is considered both substandard and unsafe.

City Attorney Don Hemphill noted that passing this motion puts what has become a simplified process into motion to get the nuisance property on West 12th Street cleaned up.

Should the city end up doing the work, Hemphill says there is a way some of the costs could be recouped.

Estimates for the work show it could cost as much as 25-thousand dollars to deal with asbestos on the property as well as light demolition with approximately ten thousand more needed to finish the work and cap utilities.
