Lake Park, IA (KICD) — Monday was the first Harris Lake Park school board meeting since the bond issue for a new elementary school passed on election day. Superintendent Gary Richardson thanked the public for their overwhelming support and says the district would like to have students in the new K-Six addition by fall of 2025.
The school board next must decide who will oversee the project: the architect charges fifteen hundred dollars a day, or they can hire what’s called a “General Contractor – At Risk”
The consensus of the HLP school board is to dispose of the old school building, playground, and vacant lot. They do hope the buyer of the building will either fix it up, or tear it down so it doesn’t become an eyesore. The city of Lake Park is interested in the playground for a new city park.
