Truesdale, IA (KICD)– Two people have died from injuries sustained in a Friday morning crash on Highway 71 in Buena Vista County.

The Iowa State Patrol says an SUV driven by 30-year-old Mayra Lopez-Zavala of Storm Lake was eastbound on County Road C-43 near Truesdale shortly after seven o’clock when turned into the path of a southbound pickup driven by 47-year-old Jeffrey Kies of Sioux Rapids.

Lopez-Zavala died at the scene. A passenger in her vehicle, 62-year-old Maria Zavala Saldana of Storm Lake was taken to a local hospital where she later died.

Kies was treated for minor injuries.
