Grimes, IA (KICD)– In anticipation of the first big chill of the season, Black Hills Energy is encouraging natural gas customers to take safety steps.
Snow and ice buildup on natural gas meters can create a safety hazard and even cut off the flow of natural gas to heating equipment and appliances.
Black Hills suggests clearing snow away by hand and not to use a shovel or sharp objects because they could damage equipment.
Don’t store snow blowers or shovels near gas meters or above ground equipment.
Gently remove snow or debris from outdoor vents; the appliances will not run efficiently if the vents are blocked.
Check your batteries on your carbon monoxide detector in your home.
